Looking at this photo of a marketplace street 商店街 near my apartment in Nishi-Ogu 西尾久, Arakawa-ku 荒川区 (Tokyo) makes me tremendously nostalgic. I used to return here in the dark when the greengrocers and other various tiny businesses were closing up for the night. If I managed to make it earlier in the evening, I would sometimes buy vegetables. (Having a supermarket across the street from my apartment building didn’t exactly motivate me to come here, though.)
